Pantone, Inc. began in the 1950s as a commercial printing company and later became best known for its Pantone Matching System --- a proprietary color space used primarily in the manufacture of colored paint, fabric, and plastics. The Matching System created a way to standardize colors so that different companies in different locations could ensure the accuracy of colors without direct contact with one another. Over time, they became the authority on color that now influences trends in all facets of design.
Since the year 2000, the Pantone Color Institute declares a Color of the Year. Twice a year they hold secret meetings, conduct presentations and debate, before deciding on the color for the following year. The results are published in the Pantone View, after which fashion designers, interior designers, florists and more purchase to help guide them in their designs and planning for future products.
Pantone has said that color "has always been an integral part of how a culture expresses the attitudes and emotions of the times".
The Color of the Year for 2017 is Greenery. It has a yellowish-green hue and represents the clean feel of nature. With Green being one of my favorite colors, I've always enjoyed finding ways to decorate with it. What kind of ways do you enjoy using Green in your home? Or is there another color you love better? Perhaps that color will become their Color of the Year in the near future!
